In this article, I came up with the latest news which is in the market about the NOKIA.
Nokia Corporation
The international Finnish telecommunications, IT, and consumer electronics group was founded in 1865. For the past 150 years, the business has worked in diverse sectors. Nokia is a significant contributor to the mobile telephony industry, having helped create the GSM, 3 G, and LTE (and currently 5 G) standards, and was once the world’s largest provider of mobile phones and smartphones. Its cell phone company was acquired by Microsoft after a relationship with Microsoft and subsequent industry struggles, establishing Microsoft Cell as its successor in 2014.
As you all know about Nokia Corp. In the early ages of the mobile telephony industry, Nokia rules like a King in the market with the best mobile phones at cheap prices but unfortunately, when mobile industries introduce android or windows, Nokia was not performed well. Samsung and Apple introduce their back to back models with remarkable features that will take place in the market.
Nowadays Nokia is again in the news, with his achievements and new contracts. On 29 June 2020, Nokia received a 5G deal worth approximately $450 million from Taiwan Mobile to develop the fifth-generation telecommunications operator network as the sole provider.
But this is not big news because now I will disclose the recent contract details which were won by Nokia. On October 19, 2020, Nokia picked by NASA to build a 4G mobile network for astronaut usage on the moon. The $14.1 million contracts are through subsidiary Bell Labs, and the program is expected to launch in 2022.
Yes! This is something big in the field of IT.
The $14.1 million contract, awarded to Nokia´s US subsidiary, is part of NASA´s Artemis Programmed which aims to send the first woman, and next man, to the Moon by 2024. The astronauts will begin to perform systematic experiments and explorations that the agency hopes will help it establish its first human Mars mission.
In the future, Nokia said, the 4G equipment could be upgraded to a super-fast 5G network. In total, NASA revealed last week that it would allocate $370 million to 14 companies for its quest to supply “Tipping Point” innovations, including robots and new methods for extracting the resources needed to survive on the Moon, such as oxygen and energy resources.
Marcus Weldon, Chief Technology Officer at Nokia and Nokia Bell Labs President, said:
“ Leveraging our rich and successful history in space technologies, from pioneering satellite communication to discovering the cosmic microwave background radiation produced by the Big Bang, we are now building the first-ever cellular communications network on the Moon. Reliable, resilient, and high-capacity communications networks will be key to supporting sustainable human presence on the lunar surface. By building the first high-performance wireless network solution on the Moon, Nokia Bell Labs is once again planting the flag for pioneering innovation beyond the conventional limits.”
NASA claims 4G will provide more efficient connectivity over longer distances than the existing radio standards that are in effect on the moon. The 4G network will soon be upgraded to 5G, much as on Earth.
Bell Labs said that astronauts would use their wireless network for data transfer, lunar rover tracking, real-time lunar geography navigation (think Google Maps for the Moon), and high-definition video playback. Giant cell towers with massive power generators and radios sustain the 4 G network on Earth. Bell Labs, however, has helped develop small cell technology that is more limited in size but requires much less power than conventional cell towers and is far simpler to fit into a rocket ship. That small cell technology is currently being deployed worldwide for 5G networks.
It’s too early to conclude something about this 4G mobile network on the moon. Hope that this project will give positive results and this will help in the Future. Let’s think practically, this 4G- mobile network gives better results as compared to the 4G-mobile network on earth because on the moon there is no disruption such as trees, mountains, towers, buildings, etc. They also should consider the particularities of the lunar surface: extreme temperature, radiation, and space’s vacuum because first is designed a cellular network that will not affect the lunar surface.
I’m waiting anxiously for the results or findings of this project. I appreciate it if anyone wants to add valuable knowledge about this contract.
